ACAC Atherton Childrens Art Club - three days on jellyfish blooming and reasons why. We looked at sea temperatures and pollution. Visits at the dump gave us the found objects to use for our hubcap jellyfish to be displayed at the Foyer Gallery October 7th. Scavanged Herberton Road tip for the buttons, jewellery and hubcaps:)
During class the arts students were interested to see how plastic items can be bought in a more sustainable material. Some students (and volunteers) actually bought some plastic beads and straws to add to the mix but these were purposefully put to one side. An enthusiastic conversation follwed as to why this was not necessary. We touched on demand and supply but the students may need a few years to understand this concept!
In one big bag I coupled and then handed out some interesting items. Here are a few that students picked out and commented on:
a plastic straw v a stainless steel straw
gladwrap v waxed fabric
whiteboard marker v refillable (Auspen) marker
plastic toothbrush v bamboo toothbrush
plastic comb v wooden comb
large dice plastic
pencil sharpener v steel sharpener
plastic dishwash
brush v wooden dishwash brush
